Divine Apothecary by House of Excelsior was founded by Azra ZK, also known as Azra Kujović, poet, writer, and creator of the N° 99 Collection and Poetic Truths.

Born in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Azra’s love for nature began in primary school, where her favourite project was building a herbarium, collecting herbs throughout the four seasons and studying their mesmerising colours, textures, and healing properties. Her family carries a lineage of Balkan herbal remedies, and the wonders of natural medicine were part of her upbringing.

At the age of twelve, while living in Syria, Azra began writing poetry and walking a spiritual path. It was there that she wrote and published her first poem, and where her deeper reverence for botanicals, faith, and healing first took root. Syria, home to ancient Phoenician cities, the Achaemenid Empire, and the land where the world’s first olive tree was planted over 6,000 years ago, is also the ancient home of the Damask Rose, the most celebrated rose in the world of sacred perfumery and ceremony, which takes its name from Damascus, Syria’s ancient capital. It was in this living soil of botanical and spiritual history that the seeds of House of Excelsior were first planted.

Through her own experience of displacement and adversity, a profound compassion for humanity emerged, one that would shape the direction of her life. She developed a deep interest in Abrahamic religions, ancient history, and the cradle of civilisations.

At the age of fourteen, Azra relocated with her mother and sister to Australia. Over the years she has lived across Europe, the Middle East, and New Zealand. Shaped by four continents and the dualities of war and peace, loss and renewal, with faith as her constant anchor, House of Excelsior emerged as a sanctuary for the human heart.

Poetic Truths became an expression of House of Excelsior’s heart.

The guiding light of her work is a profound compassion for the human experience and the Philosophy of Divine Remembrance™, the understanding that beneath every season of change, grief, loss, and becoming, the human spirit endures and carries an innate capacity to renew and return to balance, beauty, presence, and truth.

Anima Excelsa is the Latin motto of House of Excelsior. It means The Elevated Soul.

Anima means soul, inner life, or breath of life. Excelsa means elevated, exalted, noble, or lifted high.

For House of Excelsior, Anima Excelsa represents the soul in its state of return, refined through remembrance, devotion, restraint, authenticity, beauty and sacred renewal.

It is not the elevation of ego, status, or superiority. It is the quiet ascent of the human spirit toward truth, authenticity, beauty, wisdom, and divine remembrance.

At the heart of House of Excelsior stand the Twin Peacocks, one white, one black.

Together, they embody the essence of the human journey.

They are storytellers of the human soul.

Peacocks are among the world’s most magnificent creatures, recognised for their radiant colours, graceful presence, and extraordinary plumage of green, blue, gold, copper, black, and white.

Across cultures and sacred traditions, they have long been associated with beauty, dignity, confidence, honour, integrity, protection, royalty, renewal, immortality, and spiritual awakening.

The peacock carries confidence without arrogance. It stands in its full splendour without apology, yet without force. It reminds us not to hide the colours of our soul.

The Fleur-de-Lis within House of Excelsior is honoured as the Bosnian Lily, a symbol of heritage, sovereignty, dignity, remembrance, and enduring resilience.

Its roots reach back to the medieval Kingdom of Bosnia and the reign of King Tvrtko I Kotromanić, the first King of Bosnia and one of the most influential rulers in Bosnian history. Crowned in 1377, King Tvrtko transformed Bosnia into a strong and prosperous kingdom, expanding its influence, strengthening its economy, and establishing one of the most significant periods of Bosnian statehood.

The Bosnian Lily appeared on royal seals, banners, coins, coats of arms, and ceremonial regalia associated with King Tvrtko and the Kotromanić dynasty. His royal mantle, discovered centuries later, was embroidered with golden lilies, while his seals and coinage carried the emblem that would become one of Bosnia’s most enduring symbols.

For founder Azra Kujovic, born in Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Bosnian Lily serves as a bridge between ancestry and future generations.

It honours the land of her birth. It honours the resilience of a people who endured war, displacement, and loss. It honours the belief that beauty, dignity, and hope may endure even through the most difficult chapters of history.

Within House of Excelsior, the Bosnian Lily is not merely a historical emblem. It is a living thread woven through her own life.

At twelve years old, during the siege of Sarajevo, her first poem was published in a Bosnian newspaper. Written in the midst of war, longing, and love for her homeland, it was read by her family while they were still living under siege, with no way to communicate with the outside world.

Years later, after arriving in Australia as a refugee, that same symbol continued to call her. At fifteen, Azra became one of the founders of Mladi Ljiljani, Young Lilies, the first Bosnian youth and cultural group on the Gold Coast. She remained deeply involved until the age of twenty-one, helping to preserve language, memory, identity, and belonging for a generation displaced by war.

Long before House of Excelsior existed, the Lily was already present, in poetry, in exile, in community, in remembrance, and in the quiet determination to honour where she came from while creating something worthy for the future.
